New Moon in Cancer

Generally speaking, New Moons in Cancer are opportunities to start new efforts around the topics of home, family, household, care, and security. While this is the general Cancer New Moon theme, there is a caveat, and that is Mercury retrograde.

Old and Unfinished Business

Mercury retrograde tends to favor revisiting, revising, reconnecting, repairing, and completing rather than initiating matters that require smooth forward momentum. Now Mercury is retrograde in Cancer, and it is also part of this New Moon because of its close conjunction.

The best way to use this New Moon is to finish what is left unfinished or has stalled around home, family, car, and household matters. You have a renovation project that has stalled? Great time to continue. You had a self-care routine that fell out of schedule? Start again. You were investing in the future of your family but lost the discipline? Now is the time to get back to it. You intended to buy a home and even found one but stepped back for whatever reason? It may be a good time to reevaluate. Cleaning the house and taking care of maintenance are also great ways to use this energy.

Cancer also signifies nostalgia and our memories. While Mercury is retrograding, we will likely remember and miss things from our past. Nostalgia will be heightened. Try not to make decisions based on the past, because it is the past and it is over. But watch your old videos, revisit films you missed, or go visit places. from memories. There is nothing wrong with that.

Fragile Relationships

The planet of love and pleasure is not in a pleasant condition in Virgo. Virgo signifies criticism, detail, and service. Venus loses some of its natural harmony here and tends to express itself through analysis, fixing flaws, and seeking improvement. While this can be useful in moderation, it can also turn into excessive criticism, perfectionism, or becoming overly focused on beauty, relationships, or material matters.

During the New Moon, Venus will be in a square with Uranus in Gemini. Uranus is sudden, shocking, and unexpected, while Gemini is intellectual, dual, and communicative. A sudden thought about our appearance, especially one rooted in self-criticism, or an unexpected comment from someone about our appearance may be possible with this energy. Venus also represents relationships, marriages, and partnerships, so this challenging energy may affect those as well.

In broader terms, sudden attraction or dislike, changes in appearance, and instability in relationships are common manifestations.

Given Venus is in Virgo, I think it is best to react and make your judgment later if you experience any of these. And if you have critical thoughts during this period, it is best to keep them to yourself, even with your closest circle. Mercury retrograde in Cancer can make us emotionally sensitive and fragile.

This is a perfect energy to kindle a fight that otherwise would not have been a major issue.

Gambler's Curse

I have mentioned the Jupiter-Pluto opposition, known as Gambler's Curse, before in my weekly forecasts, as it has already started forming. During this New Moon it will be very close to exact, and on July 20 it will be exact.

This is a relatively rare condition, occurring roughly every five to six years, and it deserves caution. In general, it reminds us not to push our luck or take excessive risks. If we do, the consequences can be much greater than expected. This opposition is happening across the Leo-Aquarius axis, which means we should avoid putting ourselves into risky situations because of excessive confidence, heightened ego, or the desire to prove our power or control. This condition is also strongly emphasized in financial astrology, where it is considered a period to be especially cautious with speculative and high-risk activities such as betting, gambling, the stock market, particularly day trading, options, and futures.

Stay safe.
